How Do We Predict the Future?

We do it with the help of individuals who are involved in the buying and selling of local advertising.

Using the highly respected Delphi method, you as a participant help answer approximately 10 questions pertaining to an advertising topic in two or more rounds. After each round, an anonymous summary of the participants’ forecasts from the previous rounds are provided for judgment. Participants are encouraged to revise their earlier answers in light of the replies of other members of the group. During this process the range of the answers will decrease and the group will converge towards the "correct" answer.

Nine out of ten panelists agree that printed directories will cease to exist.  Nine out of ten panelists also agree that if this occurs, it will be within the next 11 years.

 

Borrell Associates predicts that printed directories will see an overall decline, both locally and nationally, of 30.3% within the next 5 years, based on our Q1 2011 data. With mobile on the rise and the easily accessibility of the Internet and apps that provide directory information it's easy to see why printed directories are likely to fade away. As with printed newspapers, printed directories cost significantly more than their online counterparts and are not always easily accessible.
